Open day at the Berrima Gaol site

Have you ever wondered what remains of the Berrima Gaol inside the walls? The site has lived many lifetimes in its 80 year history. Used as a freezing works, munitions dump, destroyed by fire and rebuilt, the site has some stories to tell!

A limited area will be open to the public during the Australia Day market and community celebrations.

Join us to wander through some of the cells and communal areas, Open from 9am to 3pm on Friday 26th January, 2024.

The site’s new owners, the Blue Sox Group, will be submitting a request to the Department of Planning and Environment to receive a list of requirements that would need to be considered in any future development of the site, this is known as the Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements - SEARs (read more about the process here).

While the formal consultation process begins after information has been received by the State Environment office, we would like to hear your early thoughts about the site. Visit the information booth at the Marketplace Park to take part in an online survey, or contact us to request the survey link.
